Abstract

In the Dossier referring to the Islamic Revolution in Iran (Raffin 2021: 171-173) and in For a Critique of Violence (1998), both Foucault and Benjamin observe the revolutionary potential of the spiritual-religious dimension, as it is capable of interrupting the historical violence. This event is called a generalized political strike by Foucault and a revolutionary workers’ strike by Benjamin. This suggests, despite the irreducible basic differences, a certain conceptual closeness between both authors. Due to the philosophical interest that this suggests, the indicated texts are analyzed below, tracing the main elements of the link between religion, interruption and revolutionary action through the concept of strike. At the end, a comparative conclusion will be outlined.
