Abstract
PESCIALLO, César; PASTRIAN MANA, Diego; BARRIOS, Juan Manuel and DEL SEL, Hernán. Subtrochanteric Fractures Of The Femur: Treatment With A Trochanteric Nail Using Mini Invasivet Echnique. Rev. Asoc. Argent. Ortop. Traumatol. [online]. 2009, vol.74, n.1, pp.13-19. ISSN 1852-7434.
Background: The treatment of subtrochanteric fractures includes a great variety of complications that are well reported in the literature. The purpose of the current study was to evaluate the results obtained with the treatment of these type of fractures using a trochanteric nail performing a minimal invasive approach. Methods: We reviewed the outcome of 28 patients treated at our department. All of them had a follow up of more than 4 months. In each case: sex, age, type of fracture, surgery duration, morbility after surgery, fisiotherapy was addressed. Results: All of the patients achieved bone healing, on a mean time of 15 weeks. Six of them had complications after surgery, but none of them lost reduction. Conclusions: An adecuate functional outcome, less morbility and a minimal complications rate makes this technique an excellent treatment option. Is also a good alternative in elderly people who have a poor bone quality.
