Abstract

ZANOLLI, Carlos E.. La legislación toledana acerca de los Yanaconas y la población indígena de Tarija del siglo XVII. Poblac. soc. [online]. 2012, vol.19, n.1, pp.105-123. ISSN 1852-8562.

Toledo legislated on the yanaconas, correcting some inaccuracies on how this issue was handled from Spain. Toledan legislation found implementation scope in the recently founded San Bernardo de la Frontera de Tarija City (1574) serving as an effective retaining wall of the chiriguano. In this paper we discuss general measures legislated by Viceroy Toledo for the yanaconas in the Viceroyalty of the Peru, to show how those measures were reflected almost a century later in the indigenous population structure of San Bernardo de Tarija.

Keywords : Yanaconas; Francisco de Toledo; San Bernardo de la Frontera de Tarija.
