Abstract

CASTILLA, María Victoria. Maternity and social policies: experiences and meanings attributed to the monetary payments received through the program "Ciudadanía Porteña", Buenos Aires. Poblac. soc. [online]. 2014, vol.21, n.1, pp.33-59. ISSN 1852-8562.

Based on an anthropological study carried out between October 2010 and September 2011, this text discusses the network of meanings attributed -by beneficiary mothers- to the money obtained from social programs, in general, and by the conditional cash transfer "Ciudadanía Porteña" (Buenos Aires, Argentina), in particular . The central argument addressed throughout the text is that such income is regarded as compensation for the tasks enmeshed in motherhood and also for their domestic obligations.

Keywords : Vulnerability; Maternity; Social policy; Monetary transfers.
