Abstract

Considering Don Francisco de Alfaro´s activity in mid-Colonial Audiencia, this paper provides an analysis of his performance as prosecuting attorney of the Audiencia of Charcas, between 1598 and 1608. In particular, this article focuses on his experience during the lawsuit concerning the fraudulent land grants of the "repartimiento of Macha" (Northern Potosí), during the first Visita and Land Composition (1591-1595) in Charcas. Based on unpublished primary sources, it discusses the impact of his behavior toward the Royal Treasure, some local magistrates and his learning of Andean territoriality on his later work
