Abstract

MONTERA, Carolina  and  TAVERNELLI, Romina Paola. Migrants and the Judiciary: Chronicle of a research based on secondary data. Poblac. soc. [online]. 2016, vol.23, n.1, pp.169-182. ISSN 1852-8562.

This note reflects on the use of secondary data in sociological research, a strategy that has not received sufficient attention in higher education and academic debates. The ideas presented here are based on the experience of the authors in the search and assessment of secondary data so as to identify possible asymmetries in the actions of the judicial system depending on the nationality of the law breakers. The difficulties that arose during this work led to the reformulation of the initial objectives and scope of the proposal. Nevertheless, the article shows the importance of using this approach to understand certain social phenomena.

Keywords : Secondary data; Penal statistics; Intercultural relations; External migration; Judiciary.
