Abstract

SARAVIA RAMOS, Pablo; ARMINGOL JAIME, Karla  and  GARLAND CASTRO, Barbra. Oil Spill in Quintero Bay - Chile's V Region: A look from social organizations. Poblac. soc. [online]. 2016, vol.23, n.2, pp.179-206. ISSN 1852-8562.

The 2014 oil spill in Quintero Bay (Chile's V Region) was not an unusual disaster in this territory. The study - through the use of qualitative methodology- tried to find out how local social actors reacted to this incident. Results have indicated that the oil spill had consequences that went into different directions: It triggered the creation of new organizations, re-enacted old disputes among local actors, showed the type of relationship existing between community/government/industry and made evident how this type of crisis is interpreted.

Keywords : Oil spill; Standardization; Sociology of absences; Environment.
