Abstract

TUNON, Ianina; POY, Santiago  and  COLL, Agustina. Childhood Poverty in Terms of Social and Human Rights: Definitions, Estimations and Main Determinants (2010-2014). Poblac. soc. [online]. 2017, vol.24, n.1, pp.101-133. ISSN 1852-8562.

Children and adolescents are among the most vulnerable to poverty groups regardless of  the measuring methods and  definitions of poverty employed. This article shows different ways of measuring childhood poverty in urban Argentina. It presents a multidimensional index in order to tackle the complexity of the phenomenon. The method identifies areas of social deprivation related to different dimensions within children’s rights: nutrition, sanitation, housing, health, early stimulation, education and information. Based on micro-data from Argentinean Social Debt Survey, the article shows the incidence, evolution and determinants of deprivation among children between 2010 and 2014.

Keywords : Child poverty; Deprivation spaces; Multidimensional measures; Rights-based approach.
