The article provides a global characterization of female and male religious congregations/orders currently present in Argentina. Based on historical and organizational models, it analyses the growth in the number of congregations, its members and their weight compared to other celibate specialists in the Argentinean Catholic field. The article also focuses on issues related to their origin, their structures, their type of presence, and the social space they have been occupying. The text proposes hypotheses to understand the current situation of religious orders in Argentina.
