Abstract

TREMINIO, Ilka  and  PIGNATARO, Adrián. Jóvenes y el voto por la derecha radical: el caso de Costa Rica. Poblac. soc. [online]. 2021, vol.28, n.2, pp.101-126. ISSN 0328-3445.  http://dx.doi.org/https://doi.org/10.19137/pys-2021-280206.

Supported by young people, radical rightwing parties have boomed in Costa Rica. Through surveys, we characterize youths in ideological terms, and analyze their voting behavior in 2018. Opposing both state intervention in the economy and same-sex marriage, having received less schooling and professing Evangelicalism increase the probability of voting for the radical right among young people. Unlike other countries, it is young women rather than young men that vote for the radical right.

Keywords : young people; radical right; polarization; vote; Costa Rica.
