Abstract

JASSO VARGAS, Rosalba. Mortalidad de centroamericanos en tránsito por México en contraste con la mortalidad en origen 2000-2014. Poblac. soc. [online]. 2022, vol.29, n.1, pp.147-167. ISSN 0328-3445.  http://dx.doi.org/https://doi.org/10.19137/pys-2022-290108.

The objective is to compare the mortality of the Central American population in transit through Mexico with that of their place of origin. To achieve this, the Standardized Mortality Ratios are calculated, which show that mortality during migration is higher than that in countries of origin. Additionally, life expectancy is contrasted between two groups: (1) Central American population at origin and (2) Central American population at origin and in transit (together). The difference between life expectancies is not statistically significant.

Keywords : Central American migrants; accidental and violent casualties; life expectancy; Mexico's southern border; transit migration.
