Abstract
ROSASVARGAS, Rocío; ANDRADE, Marilu León and BUSTAMANTE LARA, Tzatzil Isela. Violence, femicides and organized crime in Guanajuato. Cuad. CILHA [online]. 2021, vol.22, n.1, pp.308-339. ISSN 1852-9615. http://dx.doi.org/10.48162/rev.34.0013.
Guanajuato is a state with a thriving economy, as the local government never gets tired of emphasizing. This financial flourishing is, at least in part, due to several auto assemblers and their supply stores that have been established at the industrial corridor. In contrast, Guanajuato is the state where clandestine graves are used to throw the bodies of women and men who are killed every day by the organized crime. This is the state that denies the high level of general violence and femicide. It is the state where women get caught between crime gangs, which has claimed her lives. The main goal of this paper is to analyze the increasing murders of women within this violence. To accomplish that task, we have reviewed both local newspapers -in order to look for cases of women murders- and documentary literature. There is a direct relationship between the rise of organized crime confrontations in Guanajuato and the murders of women, since the social situation of the state not only causes these deaths, but also produces impunity for these and other crimes.
