Emphysematous cystitis is an uncommon condition that occurs as a complication of urinary tract infections. Its main feature is the presence of gas within or around the bladder wall produced by bacterial fermentation. Over half of the cases occur in patients with a history of poorly controlled diabetes mellitus or immunocompromised state. It is more likely to affect females and its clinical features may vary widely. A case is presented of emphysematous cystitis in a patient with no known history of diabetes or immunocompromised state. A review is presented in the clinical presentation, imaging features and management of this condition.
