Abstract

BENAVENTE, Sebastián Matías; VILLADA, Johana Marisa; ARAYA FARFAN, Gustavo Guillermo  and  GIL, Miriam Norma. Identification of seedlings and young plants of Schinus fasciculata and S. bumelioides (Anacardiaceae) in Guachipas, Salta. Rev. Mus. Argent. Cienc. Nat. [online]. 2023, vol.25, n.1, pp.63-69. ISSN 1853-0400.  http://dx.doi.org/10.22179/revmacn.25.771.

Schinus fasciculata and S. bumelioides are species with a wide distri bution and often coexist in Argentina, but their similarities in leaf morphology at the first developmental stages make difficult to differentiate between individuals of each taxon. The objective of this work was to characterize specimens of each species of three and six months-old, which were obtained in a germination chamber, from fruits collected from two populations in Guachipas, Salta Province. Seedling and plant heights and number of nodes were recorded, and cotyledons, protophyll and juvenile green leaves were described for both stages. The useful characters for taxonomic recognition in both plant ages are mainly the shape and type of margin of the proto philes and juvenile green leaves.
