Abstract

RAMOS GOMEZ, Luis  and  RUIGOMEZ GOMEZ, Carmen. La selección de oidores y fiscal de la restablecida Audiencia de Quito (1720). Rev. hist. derecho [online]. 2015, n.49, pp.149-180. ISSN 1853-1784.

On 18th February, 1720, Philip V ordered the reinstatement of the Audiencia in Quito, that he had ordered shut down on 27th May, 1717. In order to fill the necessary positions, the Peruvian administration initially drew up two lists, one for the presidency -five names- and another with 35 names for the four positions of judge and that of public prosecutor. This article aims chiefly to study the several proposals that the Council of the Indies presented to the king regarding these latter five positions, the changes made in the initial list of 35 names during the process, and the royal decisions. In 1720, the corresponding appointments were made, and the Audiencia was reinstated on 26th March 1722. The article includes a table showing the development of this process, as well as the curricula vitae of the candidates as they were presented by the Peruvian administration.
