Abstract

CENTENO, Evelin Mares. Police chiefs: police power and intermediate authorities in the model of government of the State of Guanajuato, 1827-1837. Rev. hist. derecho [online]. 2022, n.64, pp.25-34. ISSN 1853-1784.

This article analyzes the model of government implemented in the State of Guanajuato, starting with the promulgation of the so-called Police Law in 1827, which was in force during the first federal experience and which specified the functions of the governor and the chiefs of police. From the reconstruction of this normative framework and the institutions that derived from it, it is possible to understand the practice and functioning of a conception of government based on the police power, which allowed the Executive to delimit its scope of action and carry out tasks aimed at promoting, preventing and fostering the welfare of the municipalities.

Keywords : government; police chiefs, Executive power, city council.
