Abstract

LEYES, Rodolfo M.. What does a judicial file tell to a historian of the labor movement?A case analysis: the Gualeguaychú-massacre of 1921 and its judicial summary. Rev. hist. derecho [online]. 2022, n.64, pp.45-54. ISSN 1853-1784.

The period between 1917-1921 was one of the deep worker’s struggles. The increase of union worker’s activism was resisted by the employers through the LigaPatriótica Argentina from 1919 onwards. The will to defeat the workers led to clashes against workers all over the country; the most violent confrontation in the province of Entre Ríos was the so-called ‘massacre of Gualeguaychú’, the central fact of this study.

Thearticleis divided into three parts, the first one analyzes the type of capitalism existing in the region, the worker’s movement, the organization of the Argentine Patriotic League and a reconstruction of conflicts between these two groups. The second part examines the judicial summary, focusing on the quantitative and qualitative data of this source. Finally, a reconstruction of the facts with the available sources is offered.

Keywords : labor movement; Argentine Patriotic League; Employers Offensive; syndicalism; Entre Ríos.
