Abstract

NOVAS, MARIANO; FIGUEROA, LUCAS  and  AZERRAT, JUAN MARTÍN. Thinking about the rol of entrepreneurs in environmental policies. Revista SAAP [online]. 2022, vol.16, n.2, pp.346-372.  Epub Mar 30, 2023. ISSN 1853-1970.  http://dx.doi.org/10.46468/rsaap.16.2.a5.

The article studies theoretically and empirically the strategies deployed by business actors with the aim of blocking the advancement of environmental policies or regulations that may put a limit on the expansion of their productive projects. The selected cases are three productive sectors (hydrocarbons, metal mining and livestock) in three Argentine provinces (Neuquén, San Juan and Tierra del Fuego). Two data construction techniques were used for this research: the analysis and systematization of documents and in-depth interviews with business and state actors. The results show that entrepreneurs deploy three types of actions combined to influence environmental regulations: the use of the economic weight of the sector in the provincial economy, social legitimacy and links with provincial state officials.

Keywords : Argentina; Business Actors; Environmental Politics; Subnational Politics; Natural Resources.
