Abstract

BRAGONI, Beatriz. San Martín's reading plan: reflections on the books donated to the National Library of Lima. Cuyo-anu. filos. argent. am. [online]. 2022, vol.39, n.2, pp.37-59.  Epub July 22, 2023. ISSN 1853-3175.

The article offers results of an ongoing research on San Martín's reading plan based on the list or inventory of books that he donated to the National Library of Peru in 1821. The results are organised in two sections: the first one sets out the main characteristics of the corpus of books in order to analyse the contexts of their formation, and the diversity of genres, authors and subjects that were the object of attention, browsed or read by San Martín. The second pays particular attention to the printed materials on the French Revolution, as it constituted a key theme in his reading programme, interpreting it as an "event" and a process inseparable from the course of the Spanish-American political revolutions and independence.

Keywords : Library; French Revolution; Independence; José de San Martín.
