Abstract

GUERRA LAGE, María Cecilia. Redes imaginarias y ciudades globales: El caso del stencil en Buenos Aires (2000-2007). Cuad. Cent. Estud. Diseño Comun., Ens. [online]. 2012, n.41, pp.81-97. ISSN 1853-3523.

The present paper examines the phenomenon of the proliferation of street stencils as one of the cultural aspects of the overall process of globalization, while Internet access is crucial in the mode of production and circulation of these images. Through the Web, groups producing stencils form a horizontal cross-border communication network that interconnects various peripheral and central cities. Through this network, the stencil groups swap templates, largely linked to a speech counterhegemonic local and claims that quickly become global. This enables the integration and global presence of actors and speeches that are considered silenced by the dominance of the media and the formal political scheme.

Keywords : Art; Global cities; Globalization; Sassen; Stencil; Urban interventions; Utopia.
