Abstract

ALLOCHIS, Leandro. La fotografía invisible: Identidad y tapas de revistas femeninas en la Argentina. Cuad. Cent. Estud. Diseñ. Comun., Ensayos [online]. 2014, n.47, pp.49-64. ISSN 1853-3523.

The article explores the women magazine covers as discursive devices and their particular function as an ideological tool in the construction of imagery in relation to women and national identity. Although Argentina has a diverse and plural identity formation, photographs of fashion magazines covers do not seem to represent such heterogeneity. The reductive model of female beauty, heritage international fashion publications based on fair-skinned western women, takes on special meaning in the context of Argentina, known for his character and his european desire standing in imitation of the foreign. One wonders if the relationship of visual discourse between Argentina and publishing abroad, responds only to a statute of the genre, or is also a symptom of the particular local difficulties, when recognized as a diverse, multicultural and mixed country; if in this sophisticated link between fashion and press located in Buenos Aires, homogeneous representations of the feminine trends invalidate the peripheral access to female press.

Keywords : Argentina´s fashion; Beauty stereotypes; Culture industry; Designers; Digital editing; Fashion magazines; Fashion photography; Hybridization; Identity; Media; Multicultural society; Originary populations; Social imaginary; Social speech.
