Abstract

PUTRUELE, José E  and  VENEZIANI, Marcia C. Sustentabilidad, diseño y reciclaje. Cuad. Cent. Estud. Diseñ. Comun., Ensayos [online]. 2015, n.53, pp.123-131. ISSN 1853-3523.

This paper addresses the issue of sustainability focused on recycling. Two case studies from the design area presented the issue of material reutilization and put in evidence the necessary linkage to other disciplines. From the theories of environmental determinism initiated by Hippocrates (460 BC to 377 BC) in his Theory of Humours to the technological determinism deepened by Marx, and the studies of Ecological Anthropology developed by Hardesty in the seventies to the present day, the debate about the relationship between man and the environment continues. Recycling is presented as one of the answers to sustainable consumption. Awareness by industries and consumers is, therefore, a prerequisite that needs a cultural shift in consumption patterns in order to fulfill the precepts of sustainability developed in the Oslo Symposium held in Norway in 1994.

Keywords : Sustainability; Environment; Design; Recycling; Consumption; Clothing.
