Abstract

PAZ, Carlos D.. De esta suerte se gobierna la mayor parte. La jefatura indígena examinada desde la intencionalidad performativa de la escritura etnológica de la Compañía de Jesús. Cuad. Cent. Estud. Diseñ. Comun., Ensayos [online]. 2019, n.75, pp.194-211. ISSN 1853-3523.  http://dx.doi.org/10.18682/cdc.vi75.1032.

The objective of this article is to analyze the form of social organization of indigenous leadership characterized by political anthropology as chiefdom; as a methodological excuse, I must refer to those that were formed in the Chaco of XVIIIth century. Space where the reductional action of the Society of Jesus was based on performative actions that make it possible to consider the chiefdom as a social fixiste design that starts from a communication that proposes renewed forms of interaction among the native people. The exegesis aims to unravel the intentionality of the constructed typology by the Society of Jesus as a temporary aspect of a particular form of government of wills; intentionality that has to be rethought from those diacritics selected by the Ignatians as indicators of positions of prestige and authority capable of transforming into sectoral forms of power. Then these values would be transferred to the society in its entirety in order to consummate a new type of social order. This proposal in itself, from an examination from long duration, questions the chiefdom as an extended natural form of native government.

Keywords : Chiefdom; Ethnological Writing; Society of Jesus; Performance; XVIIIth century.
