Assuming that design problems develop within intricate social, themes like social innovation necessarily demand a profound appreciation of contexts. The designer deals fundamentally with an ontological difficulty to identify what is at stake in the social scenarios they investigate. Feenberg (2017) suggests that such difficulty should be explained as some kind of “epistemological finitude” that affects everyone. In other words, Feenberg suggests individuals work in constant impossibility of knowing. In design, this implies that the designers are self-aware of their incapacity of knowing what a project/ design requires of themselves, even when the designers access shared knowledge of others. This article discuss the function of a particular project that attempts to enable and encourage informants to access remote instances of their particular universe and it is largely oriented towards practice-based design research, and more specifically, by the method of cultural probes and the development of prototypes.
