Abstract

RODRIGUES DE MOURA, Gabriele. Diario de un viage (1746): um estudo comparativo sobre o discurso narrativo de José Cardiel, S.J. e Pedro Lozano, S.J e suas aportações para a memoria escrita da Companhia de Jesus. Cuad. Cent. Estud. Diseñ. Comun., Ensayos [online]. 2021, n.92, pp.200-220.  Epub Aug 15, 2021. ISSN 1853-3523.  http://dx.doi.org/10.18682/cdc.vi92.3872.

The present article intends to make a comparative study between the speech of José Cardiel, SJ and Pedro Lozano, SJ on the expedition made to the Strait of Magellan (1745/1746), as a way of showing and reflecting in what way a direct discourse participated in the event and was a witness of the facts) undergoes a filtering when being redone by another person. Equally, we seek to analyze the issue of travel through writing as a form of personal knowledge and displacement in a strange geography. However, it will be this unknown geography, which causes the author to re-think such facts in the perspective of an absence of this previous strangeness. The journey and its description are important in this perspective because it can be analyzed as an art of memory and as a narrative resource of history, as a discursive genre that can undergo changes even if they are two journeys (that of self-knowledge that relates to the act of traveling to other places physically, the literary, which is the journey through reading and imagination). Such reflection allows us to think about the insertion of a new narrative bias to a specific text can change its original meaning, as occurred in the Diario de un viage (1746), through inaccuracies or the addition of subjects that were not addressed in the letter written by Cardiel in the same year. For this, we use as a theoretical-methodological concept of narrative discourse (Genette), to guide our analysis, in which a second-hand narrative is considered as a rewriting of a text, in which the original account is modified, transformed and distanced from was proposed by its author.
