Abstract

LIZAMA, Denisse. “Ver para crear”. Bitácora atrapa ideas. Cuad. Cent. Estud. Diseñ. Comun., Ensayos [online]. 2022, n.103, pp.134-148.  Epub Feb 22, 2022. ISSN 1853-3523.  http://dx.doi.org/10.18682/cdc.vi103.4133.

The present article has the purpose of exposing the application of a complete Compass design process, and is a detailed and descriptive summary of the experience, focused in the reflection about how to generate efficient small innovations in the field of education to generate great changes that contribute to improving the lives of people with incalculable impacts on a global scale. “View to Create” is a system of idea visualization with the main objective of awakening creative potential to make the process of idea germination more efficient. It is also intended to enrich the experience and encourage a positive attitude from the creatives, solving the death-valley that is produced at the beginning of the creative process, lowering initial anxiety and increasing their sense of well-being, significantly incrementing generating the frequency, quantity and creative power of ideas. The educational process was developed in four stages, preparation, perception, prototyping and producing.

The methodology applied is eminently associative, since the search for ideas is developed through individual experience and direct observation of research phenomena. Specifically, the content is extracted from news printed in journals, and recorded in a log that compilates the totality of the creative exercise, and it is the result of sensory detection, predominantly visual, of the successive practical exercises and the diverse exhibition areas. Finally, I reflect on the challenge of incorporating the Compass, Design to Improve Life educational methodology in the local educational system, and the possibility of adapting it to the diverse socio-cultural environments of our country.

The adaptability of the methodology is a relevant feature to increment the efficiency of its application, since it is based in interpersonal relationships which are characteristically highly complex and dynamic. In order to guarantee optimal functioning, educational methodologies must be easy to adapt to different users. The challenge implies the incorporation of the Compass methodology in the local educational system, which is directly related with the possibility of adapting it to the diverse socio-cultural environments of our country, in the academic, productive and social contexts. The condition of adaptability of the methodology must be evident from the initial promise, since the purpose of improving people’s lives is relative to the context from which the change originates.

It is important to note that the application of the Compass Methodology, is part of the various educational innovations that I have applied as a teacher and consultant in more than 15 years directing and advising social innovation projects both in academia and in recognized national companies of the creative field, and some of them are exposed in the talk TEDXUDD: The Art of Learning Room, a reflection on how Drawing is an educational tool that generates creative solutions and enables to visualize knowledge.
