It is a fact that the publishing market has, at least since the phenomenon of Harry Potter, focused on the youth niche. Bearer of subdivisions that serve from teenagers to young adults, the longer narratives in this segment tend to challenge the myth that young people do not read. However, what is the profile of those who write this type of production? In the catalogs of the largest Brazilian publishers, there is an absence of black women. But they write all kinds of literature, including youth literature. In this article, we will present data from ongoing research on black women who write for the niche; how they legitimize themselves; where and how they publish.
