This article aims to discuss social innovation from the activities of the Flores do Morro Extension Project: design, dance and architecture for social welfare, from the Fed-eral University of Minas Gerais with Flores do Morro, a community group of women of Morro das Pedras - western zone of Belo Horizonte / MG, a region of social vulnerability and with low Human Development Index. The project had as a proposal to develop with these women activities so they could enrich their crafts, through creativity, improvisa-tion and playfulness. The methodological procedures adopted in the project value the relationship built between those involved in the process, as well as the recognition of the knowledge and potential of each participant. As main results, it is possible to highlight the improvement of the self-esteem of the female participants, the dialogical interaction between the University and the community and, mainly, the strengthening of the identity of the group. The social impact of the project’s actions was perceived, both in relation to the group and the community, as well as in relation to the students involved, who had the opportunity to put into practice the knowledge acquired in the university and could have access to other types of knowledge and other realities, experiencing in practice the poten-tialities of this type of action.
