Abstract

GOMEZ, Arnulfo Uriel de Santiago. México, libros como signos de su historia cultural. Clasificar, reflexionar: letras para la infancia y religión. Cuad. Cent. Estud. Diseñ. Comun., Ensayos [online]. 2023, n.124, pp.22-64.  Epub July 07, 2023. ISSN 1853-3523.  http://dx.doi.org/10.18682/cdc.vi124.4416.

Being children’s and youth literature (LIJ) a complex phenomenon, I do not address here the study of its different forms nor the most general of religion. Nor do I sketch its history, but I present a list of manifestations of one of its many faces: religious letters directed at children and youth as an expression of beliefs or forms of worship typical of the populations that have populated the territory that Mexico occupies today, diverse according to the historical periods considered here. I start from considering that the LIJ in general, and this face in particular, shows the richness of our cultural heritage. Thus, the parts that make up this article go from our native peoples to Spanish evangelization; and then in some of its decades from the 19th to the 21st century. Dialogue can continue around the LIJ, the study of multiple supports: orality in the voices that reproduce their legends, songs and prayers; or their texts themselves through the media or in print, to invite a common reflection on our cultural history.
