Abstract

Cuad. urbano [online]. 2009, vol.8, n.8. ISSN 1853-3655.

This article looks at the neighborhood recovery program carried out in Chile since 2006 by means of an intervention model that focuses its development on the integrity, participation and sustainability of the process considering both its physical and social dimensions. It is a three step program that is methodologically implemented by the design, development and evaluation of an integral neighborhood recovery project. Focusing on the actions implemented in three neighborhoods that are experiencing a highly critical situation due to the difficult operational complexity required to work out their problems, this article makes a comparative analysis of the program's implementation strategies. It considers variables ranging from their morphology, urban structure or a social type model- as included in their development- to the analysis of aspects that show their socio-economic and demographic configuration, and including the identification of the factors that give rise to their present management. Although the same management model, based on the neighborhood recovery integral model, has been adopted to approach these three neighborhoods exposed to critical situations, this article is about how the variables that gave rise to each of these neighborhoods determine the need to make the management model more flexible and diverse in order to adapt it to the specific situations and circumstances that are implicit in their social, housing, legal or urban problems.
