Abstract
GUEVARA, Tomás Alejandro. ¿La ciudad para quíen?: Políticas habitacionales y renovación en La boca. Cuad. urbano [online]. 2011, vol.11, n.11, pp.81-99. ISSN 1853-3655.
The neighborhood of La Boca in Buenos Aires has been the subject of many housing policies since the restoration of democracy in 1983, motivated by the increasing degradation of the urban fabric. The objectives of these policies were aimed at the revitalization of the fabric and the consolidation of low-income population in the area. But, on the other hand, the processes of urban renewal that characterized Buenos Aires since 1990, pushed for the incorporation of La Boca to the central area of Buenos Aires. This expansion increased land values, , turned the area into a tourist spot and pushed out the most vulnerable families. Thus, the neighborhood of La Boca is the protagonist of antagonistic habitat production processes, which offer different conceptions of the city, different patterns of appropriation of space and rents associated with urban land, where the organizational capacity of the social sectors involved plays a key role.
