Abstract

RODRIGUEZ, María Carla et al. La política urbana "PRO: continuidades y cambios en contextos de renovación en la Ciudad de Buenos Aires. Cuad. urbano [online]. 2011, vol.11, n.11, pp.101-121. ISSN 1853-3655.

In recent decades, the processes of urban renewal and requalification have played an important role in Buenos Aires city. The economic liberalization model initiated in the 90s laid the groundwork for new urban development focused on investment property to modernize certain areas of the city, in order to facilitate capital accumulation and compete in the global market (the "Buenos Aires brand"). This dynamic city modified the southern area of the city, increasing the conditions for the displacement of lower-income sectors: its historic residents. In previous researches we have helped to show how the state - national and loca -, has played a necessary role as a jump-starter and supporter of change. In this article, we are interested in studying urban policies implemented by the mayor of Buenos Aires Government, Mauricio Macri, and, in particular, interventions aimed at the popular sectors, identifying changes and continuities in the preocesses of urban renewal.

Keywords : Urban renewal; Housing policy; Popular sector.
