Abstract

PASTENE, Aarón Napadensky. Centros tradicionales, nuevas centralidades y descentralización en metrópolis intermedias latinoamericanas: Caso del Gran Concepción, Chile. Cuad. urbano [online]. 2016, vol.21, n.21. ISSN 1853-3655.

Traditional central areas, new centralities and descentralization in medium sized latinamerican cities: the case of Greater Concepción, Chile Latin American academic discourse usually links metropolization processes with those of neoliberal policies, characterizing the emergence and consolidation of polynuclear urban systems, driven by increasing tertiary urban economies, forming new centers outside the traditional center or downtown. As a result, there is a consensus that this is refected in the obsolescence of the traditional urban centers, which decline in importance in favor of these new centers. These narratives emerge from the analysis of large national capitals of the continent, but when extrapolated to other metropolitan areas and cities of intermediate size on the assumption that they are trending toward similar structures, it obscures the real possible differences beyond a simple question of urban size or development stage.

Keywords : Metropolization, advanced tertiary (?) services and traditional centers.
