Abstract

BENITEZ, Joaquín. El derecho a la ciudad como estructura de sentimiento : ¿nuevas formas pre-emergentes de significar la vivienda y el espacio urbano en la Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires?. Cuad. urbano [online]. 2018, vol.25, n.25, pp.31-49. ISSN 1853-3655.  http://dx.doi.org/10.30972/crn.25253510.

The right to the city as a structure of affection: new pre-emerging forms of signifying housing and urban space in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires? In this paper, we explore how the right to the city was understood among social movements and organizations in the Auronomous City of Buenos Aires between 2007 and 2015. With this aim, we conducted both qualitative research and interviews of grassroots leaders of 12 organizations struggling for housing and rights to the city. We found that, apart from a few exceptions, there is no explicit and generalized claim for such rights. Instead, we discovered a series of grievances that were not narratively articulated and expressed in a coherent system of beliefs. We propose the use of the concept of structure of feelings as suggested by Raymond Williams as a tool to analyze the right to the city as a pre-emergent cultural entity that, in spite of its tack of articulation, had a real effect on the practices and experiences of these organizations.

Keywords : Right to the city; urban social movements; Auronomous City of Buenos Aires; structure of feelings.
