Abstract

ARBOIT, Mariela E.; MAGLIONE, Dora S.  and  MUTANI, Guglielmina. DETERMINATION OF THE FORM FACTOR (FF): THE CASE OF THE METROPOLITAN AREA OF MENDOZA. Cuad. urbano [online]. 2020, vol.28, n.28, pp.9-34. ISSN 1853-3655.  http://dx.doi.org/10.30972/crn.28284322.

This work studies the Form Factor (FF), in the Metropolitan Area of Mendoza (AMM) and its six political-administrative jurisdictions (called departments), as part of the problem of environmental and energy-sustainable development of the building sector in cities placed on the arid region of central-western Argentina.

Methodologically, the surface area and volume were calculated for the buildings constructed in the study area, based on the Geographic Information Systems (GIS), which allowed obtaining results and statistically analyze the variable FF (considering for its calculation one or two horizontal loss surfaces) categorized according to a scale of values in three categories. The evaluation indicates, for all the departments, predominance of constructions in category 2. The results have allowed the development of significant information which will be available for future studies of energy strategies and prospects. The conclusions of the spatial study show that it is possible to develop energy strategies, based on existing buildings, identifying constructions with FF values greater than 1.20 and departments that require an intervention priority.

Keywords : Building morphology; energy efficiency; surface to volume ratio (S/V).
