This article analyzes public housing policies in Greater Buenos Aires in the years when Domingo Mercante, the Governor of Buenos Aires Province, built many many state housing complexes. As a part of an in progress research, this article presents not conclusive interpretations focused on urban policies, social and spatial organization of working class neighborhoods, in this period, in Avellaneda and Vicente Lopez. This first approach adopts a double and complementary perspective: on the one hand, the state housing complexes are analyzed within the frame of urban and architectural history and on the other, focused on the historical dimension of public and social policies under the classic Peronism.
