The transition between the middle and upper basin of Arroyo del Gato, in the city of La Plata, Argentina, constitutes an area where the urban begins to merge with the rural. The presence of large vacant areas, their proximity to access roads to the city and environmental conditions explain the increase in their occupation by informal settlements, among other modalities. The study sector, crossed by the Gato stream, is affected by the problem of floods, registering various conditions of vulnerability and risk (very high, high, and medium) to which the population is exposed. Methodologically, different levels of risk were identified considering the simulation of a flood according to recurrence over twenty-five years, and the informal dwellings reached were recognized. The article aims to characterize the informal settlements affected by medium risk, and to outline architectural strategies associated with housing, and urban strategies linked to the occupation of the study area.
