Abstract

COSACOV, Natalia. Beyond the housing: the uses of the city: Daily mobility of residents in Buenos Aires. Estudios Socioterritoriales [online]. 2015, vol.18. ISSN 1853-4392.

This article discusses the daily mobility, understood as social practice of shift that allows access to activities, people and places, of residents in Caballito, a neighborhood located in the geographical center of Buenos Aires city. It is postulated that the question of the everyday uses of urban space by residents of a neighborhood or specific area extends the coordinates in which to examine the intersection between urban space and social inequality. Exposed findings show that these homes on their residential location -the result of an election and mobilization of resources- enjoy centrality, capable of condensing accessibility to labor and consumption and proximity to family ties. It works with a corpus of 40 biographical interviews with heads of households living in Caballito.

Keywords : Daily mobility; Residential location; Middle-classes; Social inequality.
