Tourist vocation is a concept frequently used to refer to territories or places with the ability to attract the tourist gaze or places with potential for tourism development. This concept requires a thorough analysis to determine the existing levels of tourism vocation within a city. The aim of this article focuses on the presentation of the most important aspects of the construction and methodology validation for measuring the vocation degree in a homogeneous area within the territory. This valuation methodology was built from 18 criteria grouped into two variables capacity and aptitude, and validated in two Colombian cities: Bogotá and Medellín. Results have allowed not only a comparison of factors for tourist vocation, but also its validation as a model to determine the main variables to be analyzed in each zone.
