Abstract
BENDER, Pablo Martín. The socio-spatial formation of the northern province of Santa Fe: from the colony to its current social and productive dynamics. Estudios Socioterritoriales [online]. 2017, vol.22. ISSN 1853-4392.
The province of Santa Fe is the second with the highest Gross Geographical Product of Argentina, its economic development is mainly related to the early insertion of its central and southern areas to the agro-industrial pampean economy. However, its northern sector is part of the Gran Chaco, a peripheral region, in transition. Occupying 60 % of the territory of Santa Fe and with 12 % of its population, the north of Santa Fe is a space of contrasts. In this paper we will analyze its socio-spatial formation, emphasizing in its historical productive and population dynamics. We propose a periodization in four stages: 1) Colonial period, with conflicts over livestock and the foundation of reductions 2) Independence, civil war and depopulation, 3) Conquest of the Chaco and the quebracho cycle, 4) Transition phase Productive to the humid pampas.
