Abstract

BRUNO, Mariana Paola; ARES, Sofia Estela  and  LUCERO, Patricia Iris. Sociodemographic dynamics and human settlement system in the southeast of Buenos Aires. A comparative analysis between General Pueyrredon and Balcarce (1991-2010). Estudios Socioterritoriales [online]. 2021, vol.30, pp.91-91. ISSN 1853-4392.  http://dx.doi.org/10.37838/unicen/est.30-305.

The aim of this research paper is to analyse the sociodemographic characteristics of the population of General Pueyrredon and Balcarce, between 1991 and 2010. Demographic indicators were calculated for the total population and localities of each district based on a quantitative analysis of the data obtained from the National Population, Household and Dwellings Censuses 1991, 2001 and 2010. The localities were then classified into three categories depending on their growth rates: very fast, fast and fluctuating. Results showed opposite demographic dynamics. The growth of large towns (2,000 to 20,000 inhabitants) stood out in the Department of General Pueyrredon, while Balcarce District was beset by rural depopulation and the stagnation or decline of its small towns.

Keywords : Demographic dynamic; Scattered rural population; Small localities; Southeast of Buenos Aires province.
