Abstract

SAPERE, Analía V.. Problemas textuales en Salustio, Historiae II 43: La anexión de Cirene como provincia romana. Argos [online]. 2009, vol.32, n.2, pp.191-202. ISSN 1853-6379.

Fragment II 43 of Sallust's Historiae deals with the annexation of Cyrene as a Roman province in 75 b. C., during the consulship of C. Aurelius Cotta. The many lacunae in the text do not allow us to be sure of the date of the annexation, the identity and actual office of the man sent to Cyrene, nor Sallust's point of view on the situation there. By means of philological analysis, a careful study of the main editions, and the comparison with other ancient documents, this paper endeavours to throw some light on these issues.

Keywords : Sallust; Histories; Rome; Cyrene; Cotta.
