Abstract

ALVAREZ HERNANDEZ, Arturo R.. El 'agua heliconia' en la Elegía 3, 3 de Propercio. Argos [online]. 2010, vol.33, n.1, pp.25-37. ISSN 1853-6379.

In regard to the dream told by Propertius in his Elegy 3.3, it is widely agreed by the critics that two springs appear there: one representing the heroic epic and the other, the erotic elegy. According to this interpretation, the consecration of the erotic-elegiac poet is symbolized at the end of the poem, through a kind of blessing with the water of the second spring. Based on an acute remark by Luck (1969), this paper tries to show that in the programmatic Propertian dream, there is only one «Heliconian water» and that the different writings are symbolized through various forms of drinking only that one water.

Keywords : Propertius; Heliconian water; Helicon; Programmatic.
