Abstract

ESQUIVEL, Juan Cruz. Creencias y actitudes religiosas en sectores empobrecidos de Argentina: individuación y des-institucionalización en los umbrales del siglo XXI. Soc. relig. [online]. 2010, vol.20, n.32-33, pp.60-80. ISSN 1853-7081.

The contemporary scientific productions of the social sciences of religion have reflected on the religious transformations occurred in recent decades. Topics being discussed on a regular basis include the diversification of religious field, the redefinition of religious identities and the relationship between believers and religious institutions. The topics are mostly approached using qualitative research techniques. This paper aims to explore from a different perspective, religious beliefs and practices in Argentina. The focus is on the impoverished social stratum. Using as a starting point data from a national quantitative survey, we will analyse the impact of processes of individuation and deinstitutionalization in the religious attitudes of the most disadvantaged segments of society.

Keywords : Religious beliefs; lower class; disaffiliation; Argentine.
