The Survey on religious beliefs and attitudes that has been recently carried out in Argentine, inside the frame of the project Religion and Social Structure in the Argentina of the 21st century research (ANPCYT-CONICET), has revealed that the belief in God and the Catholic identity are majority in the country, especially in the Northwest. The paper constitutes our first approach to the information linked to this region. It is an approach on generational relations and symbolic forms assumed by the beliefs. It investigates the generational changes within Catholicism as well as symbolic expressions of beliefs in the context of Catholicism in the Northwest. Finally, it analyses the relations between official and non-officials practices and beliefs. The study has been carried out from the theoretical contributions of Pierre Bourdieu and Antonio Gramsci.
