Abstract
FELITTI, Karina. Communication strategies of conservative Catholic activism in front of abortion and igualitarian marriage. Soc. relig. [online]. 2011, vol.21, n.34-35. ISSN 1853-7081.
In spite of the distance between the Catholic Church's demands about morality and sexuality and what believers do in their day-to-day life, the Church continues to be an influential actor at the moment of legislating and putting into practice laws and programmes that guarantee sexual and reproductive rights. This paper analyzes the communication strategies that some Catholic groups develop in the media, social networks and the Internet, against current proposals to legalize abortion and the discussions that preceded the equal marriage law. The aim of this study is to explain how their political interventions are situated in Argentinean History, to explain the current politics that promote the judgment of the crimes perpetrated by the last dictatorship and find legitimacy in the human rights discourse. It also analyzes the reactions and proposals they generated in feminist and LGTB movements, which based their political demands in the same language of human rights, with totally different objectives but in the same sociocultural and historical field.
