Abstract

WRIGHT, Pablo. Dreams, shamanism and Evangelio among the Argentine Chaco Qom (Toba). Soc. relig. [online]. 2015, vol.25, n.44, pp.30-61. ISSN 1853-7081.

In this paper I explore from an anthropological standpoint the role of dreams among the Takshek Qom or Toba of the Argentine Province of Formosa. In so doing, I assess its importance in social life as a threshold that links humans and the dimension of powerful non-human beings.  The paper focuses on the importance of dreams in shamanism and in Evangelio, the new religious synthesis within which dreaming appears to be a vital experience of revelation and donation of power. The latter also condense cultural dilemmas and contradictions implied in the quest of power among the Evangelio brothers.

Keywords : Argentine Qom or Toba; Oniric experience; Power; Toba churches.
