Abstract

ROMERO, Guillermo. Comprehensive sex education in catholic schools from La Plata, Argentina. Practices and speeches against the regulatory efforts of local archbishopric. Soc. relig. [online]. 2020, vol.30, n.54, pp.72-96. ISSN 0326-9795.

On the grounds of an ethnographic perspective, this paper aims to describe and analyze strategies, attitudes and institutional settings of three catholic schools from the city of La Plata concerning sex education. Such issue will be studied regarding the pedagogical and evaluative guidelines set forth by the Catholic Church within the application of a gender approach policy education such as Comprehensive Sex Education (CSE). For that purpose, this paper starts by reconstructing the positioning and strategies deployed by the Catholic Church which aimed to affect the way of sex education in their schools. Following that, the article will highlight the reach of such regulatory efforts among those schools. Hence, this work shows the diversity of profiles that coexist within the universe of catholic education, and also the complex net that binds together formal regulations, knowledges and the different actors’ evaluations on religious and gender-sex, as well as others cultural repertoriesavailable.
