Abstract

MALLIMACI, Fortunato Horacio; GIALDINO, Mariano Rolando  and  APARICIO, Matías Javier. Pope Francis: fluctuations in religiosity and evaluations of his figure. Soc. relig. [online]. 2020, vol.30, n.55, pp.189-189. ISSN 0326-9795.

The appointment of Jorge Bergoglio as Francisco would seem to represent a milestone that broke in the religiosity and the public agenda of Argentina: this article analyzes and describes the impact on religiosity in this country based on quantitative data, in relation to the appointment of the new Argentine Pope and the evaluations that circulate around his figure. For this purpose, data from the Second National Survey of Religious Beliefs and Attitudes in Argentina were used. The data was disaggregated for analysis into three sections, the first refers to Catholicism, the second to evangelicals, and the third focuses on the group of those without religion, all of which is later crossed with the total data for the country. The variations that Argentine inhabitants register in terms of religiosity, and the values and valuations that it mobilizes, are interpreted from crosses with sociodemographic indicators.

Keywords : Pope Francis; religiosity; evaluation; institutional trust; catholics; evangelicals; without religion.
