Abstract

REBON, Julián  and  GAMALLO, Leandro. The social bases of protest about abortion in recent Argentina. Soc. relig. [online]. 2021, vol.31, n.56, pp.65-65. ISSN 0326-9795.

The social protest about the legalization of induced abortion represents one of the most massive mobilization processes in recent Argentina. The purpose of this article is to characterize the dynamics of recent protests in favor of or against the right to abortion in terms of social movement and to account for its social compositions. The hypothesis that guides us argues that these configure a protest cycle marked by a dynamic of movement and social countermovement. The mobilized bases express a fissure ordered mainly by conceptions of the world, and not on pre-existing political or class cleavages. The methodological strategy combines the use of an events catalog and survey research.

Keywords : Abortion; Social movement; Secularization; Protest; Argentina.
